The "How To Key" is basically taking the symbols & numbers
from the lid and the box and using the inside box as your identifier
for the sequence on the lid numbers. IE;
-------------
US Example
INSIDE BOX =43618275 <-decode symbols to get those #'s)
OUTSIDE LID=46446372<-same method as above)
SOLUTION 43642476
Start with #1 whats below it? (4),
Next is #2 whats below that? (3),
Just count 1-8 and taking note of what's underneath it to form the solution.

Well, at least I got the OUTSIDE of the box part correct. Oh well...
I couldn't care less about not having won the car, but my 10 year-old is totally bummed.
I have to admit I have struggled on some of the later puzzles and wouldn't have got past Diomede without this blog, so cheers guys. I couldn't even find the coords for Somewhere tonight. If someone would enlighten me, I'd be very grateful. Also, I have now found the lid and the box but what the hell are you suppose to do next?
eBay and gas aside, there's still the matter os U.S. TAXES for the winner to content with. Not to mention shipping the car back home - assuming that Volvo doesn't do it.
I've just gotta know, Pro, what do you do for a living??? You are just too good at these kind of games.
just so you know snooze...the guy in charge of the NBC game watches this website, lol...maybe you could be more specific so they can hit their target demographic group a little better, hahaha
hey guys...www.nestletreasurequest.com...whadaya think, huh ?
still at work thought iwould check in. great job everyone. i didn't get a chance to work the us puzzle, but i got the jp one done. oh, well.....itwas fun
thanks pro
the 'somewhere' coordinates
take us to a well known location...
one that has been thrown in the mix
the entire time ;)
google earth will explain...
great work everyone...
pirategirl, will miss this greatly...
hope to see everyone in another treasure hunt :)
Hey all, its been a pleasure. Enjoyed today's hunt with you all in mIRC, to bad the lid ended with such a stupid solving method. There are multiple ways to count, screw that! Should have ended with something more sophisticated and creative.
i'm going to miss this, it has been great fun. Thanks to everyone for helping. I hope one of you has won and if you have come back and post some pictures. Off to find another one now, thanks for link to the nestle challenge.
The only thing that has been missing from this all along is where Prö has got all his information from and what he does. And why he has been helping us all out, it obvious that he has been at least one step ahead of us all along.
Please let us in on your secrets once this is all over and done with.
wow what a night, got slammed with emails (280) and msg's, I tried to answer as many as i could while working the puzzles, Figure 95% of the people that visited this blog are probably long gone.
Not sure if updating it would be of use, I know i blew my chance at the US site as i used the JP code, At that time I was way to tired but i managed to get the US code a little under an hour to make a second submission via different info etc.
But hopefully someone here will advance to the finals.
Anyone wanna drop a hint about how to solve the outside of the box?
It looks like everyone forgot the riddle and keyword to get into Port Royal. Didn't anyone notice after adding the rows that ONE of the eight just didn't quite look like the rest? ;)
"All eight but one will see the same
For you to find that FINAL NAME"
I checked the puzzles for the other countries as well. There is a unique characteristic to exactly one of the inside number representations for every one.
have had a blast with this hunt. learned alot from everyone. thank you prometheus for this unique place to hang out. hope one of our own made it all the way. will keep in touch.
thanks all,
redsonja
Badger, the intersection method just makes things too complicated. I doubt they would have invented an entire glyph set. The count-the-lines method is similar to the method used on the inside of the box for Spain and Austria, so it is much more likely to be the correct method, IMO.
However as I mentioned earlier, no one seemed to take into account the Port Royal riddle and keyword. The keyword was "ssssssst." Seven like characters followed by one different one. By following the riddle which gave us this keyword:
"All eight but one will see the same
For you to find that final name"
...we learn the final character of the "final name" should be the unique character. All of the other keywords were used to find solutions to puzzles, but "ssssssst" had not been used yet.
For the US puzzle, the unique character is in the first column (4th in UK), as this is the only column in which adding all the symbols does not make a complete square. I find it highly unlikely this was done by accident, and it seems equally unlikely that this bit of information simply has no meaning or no bearing on the final answer. So by taking into account the Port Royal riddle and keyword it makes perfect sense.
Thus for the US puzzle, the last character should be represented by the first column, or fourth in the number sequence. Thus the beginning of the final solution is actually the 5th number in the sequence, making the final US answer 24764364, and the UK answer 90363889.
For the Japan puzzle, the unique character is the set of dots representing the number 3, as this grouping is the only one requiring a diagonal connection to one of the dots.
For Austria/Spain, I believe the unique character is grouping of lines shaped like a zero, as zero is the only non-value shown. At first I thought it may be the four since the rest of the numbers are odd, but turns out a zero is also considered an even number. However I am still a bit undecided on this one, as using the zero as the unique character of the sequence does not change the final solution, as it was already last in the sequence.
You certainly could be right Badger, but consider that if you use the intersection method, you have to guess as to whether or not the ends of lines should count or not, since they do not provide us this restriction. I doubt they are concerned that this precludes the use of a zero.
On the lids of the boxes for other countries, there is more than one numeral that cannot be used. With the methods used for the UK, Spain, Austria and Japan you cannot make a 1, 4 or 7.
Regardless of which method is the correct method, I think we can certainly agree that the US got the most difficult of the puzzles.
I spoke with Badger for a while last night on mIRC and completely support his remarks against the lid theory. I hope he's right and that there was something much more to the lid and that we all missed it. Essays for all.
anyone thought about trying to create some mini hunts on Flash?
pro thanks for this site and for all the fun, thanks everyone for your help and support
I've been adding to my blog. Just various thoughts about different possibilities. Check it out if you want...http://revsith.blogspot.com/
